The Digmin Group was launched in January 2012 by Gerald Chapman, incorporating a number of associated mining and construction companies currently operating in Africa servicing the mining, private and public sectors.
Our journey in Civil Construction and Mining Services began in 1989 with Gerald Chapman with the formation of Protech. Gerald and his dedicated team grew the company to become the single largest bulk earthworks and mining services contractor operating in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2007 Gerald listed Protech Khuthele Holdings successfully on the Main Board of JSE.
After a short retirement Gerald accepted an offer from Shanta Gold in 2012 to build the infrastructure for New Luika Gold Mine and mine the open pit gold project for 6 years in Tanzania, this gave birth to a new venture and the start of a second-generation business.
Regrouping with his senior colleagues and contract management team Gerald went on to form the Digmin Group incorporating Bamboo Rock South Africa, Bamboo Rock Plant, Bamboo Rock Mining Services, Bamboo Rock Africa and BC Mining Tanzania.

Tanzania
It all began for Digmin in Tanzania when Gerald was approached by Shanta Gold to build the mine infrastructure and mine the New Luika Opencast Pit after retiring from the Board of Protech Khuthele Holdings. At the time, Gerald with a team led by Tyrone Searle and Ernest Holton had just completed a 70km access road for Mkuju River Uranium Mine in a joint venture with Bamboo Rock Limited a Tanzanian civil contractor which Gerald then later acquired. He went on to form a Tanzanian local venture BC Mining Limited.
2014
South Africa
In 2014 Gerald decided to commence operations in South Africa again in Bulk Earthworks, Infrastructure and Contract Mining fields. The senior contract management team from Protech regrouped with Gerald and Bamboo Rock, a local South African company, was launched under the Digmin Group.
Having owned coal collieries in previous years it was a natural progression back into coal mining services.

Belfast
In 2018 Digmin joined MB Resources contributing mining equipment and expertise in a joint venture for Exxaro’s Belfast openpit mining contract, and a mine pit rehabilitation project for Seriti Coal at Kriel.

Pilgrim’s Rest
Digmin have also been selected as the preferred Mining Contractor for Theta Gold’s opencast project in Pilgrim’s Rest to start Q1 2021.
